Aperture | Louisville, Colorado

Aperture is a contemporary 31,552-square-foot flex office development located in Louisville, Colorado, designed to support a new generation of adaptable workspace and light industrial use. Composed of seven distinct two-story suites, the building balances the functionality of warehouse space with the elevated aesthetic and experience of modern office architecture. Each suite includes a two-story warehouse volume positioned at the rear of the space, complete with oversized garage doors to accommodate flexible operational needs while maintaining a refined street presence along the primary elevations.
The project’s name and architectural identity are deeply rooted in the history of the client’s family business, Mike’s Camera, a longstanding name in Colorado’s photography community. As the future home of Recycled Photo, the building draws inspiration from the mechanics and geometry of a camera aperture. This concept is expressed architecturally through the bold framed volumes located at each end of the building, where recessed second-floor balconies are carved into the massing. These large rectangular forms create depth, shadow, and rhythm across the façade while subtly referencing the framing and opening characteristics of a photographic aperture.
The architecture embraces a restrained industrial-modern aesthetic through a carefully curated palette of dark metal cladding, expansive glazing, textured panel systems, and warm wood soffits. The building’s long horizontal form is broken into a rhythmic series of vertical bays and recessed elements that provide scale, articulation, and visual movement. Large storefront systems maximize daylight penetration into the office spaces while reinforcing transparency and connection between interior activity and the surrounding site.
Designed with flexibility and longevity in mind, Aperture accommodates a wide range of tenants and uses while maintaining a cohesive architectural language throughout the development. The second-floor balconies provide outdoor amenity spaces for occupants, offering moments of openness and respite within the otherwise efficient commercial framework.
Sustainability and building performance were integral to the project from the outset. Aperture is a fully electric building designed in compliance with the 2021 IECC energy code and is infrastructure-ready for future solar photovoltaic integration. The development also incorporates EV charging stations on-site, supporting the project’s forward-looking approach to environmental responsibility and evolving workplace needs.
The result is a highly adaptable commercial environment that merges industrial utility with contemporary architectural refinement—an expressive yet disciplined building that reflects both the innovation of its tenants and the creative legacy that inspired its name.
